Rooted · Layered · Free

Afrohemian is not a trend. It is a way to honour your roots and still live freely. Think handmade textiles, woven baskets, carved wood and clay, mixed with plants and a relaxed, easy feel. Not too much. Not bare. Simply alive.

The Philosophy

Keep what has meaning. Let the rest go.

Afrohemian takes the craft of African makers and the easy spirit of bohemian living. The result is a home that feels warm, personal and calm.

You do not need to redo everything. Start with one handmade piece you love. Choose it with care, learn where it comes from, and build slowly.

If it carries no story and serves no beauty, it has no place here.

Ubuntu

I am because we are

Your space is about community, not only you. Make room for gathering, for stories and for sharing.

Sankofa

Look back to move forward

Honour craft that has been passed down. A hand-carved stool carries more meaning than a mass-made one.

Ashe

Power to make things happen

Every object holds energy. Choose with intention and show only what has story or beauty.

Mix freely

Your home, your rules

No rules about which cultures can live side by side. Your home is your own story, told your way.

Source with care

Know the maker

When you can, buy from African artisans and Black-owned makers. Learn where each piece comes from.

What is Afrohemian?

The short answer

It blends African craft with bohemian living. Think mudcloth (bogolan) from Mali, Tonga baskets from Zimbabwe, carved wood, handthrown clay, rattan and plenty of plants.

The feeling is rooted, free and lived in.
